In post-war Britain, young Lewis Aldridge, at just ten years old, is overwhelmed with sorrow as he grapples with the loss of his cherished mother. With his emotionally detached father, Gilbert, who he hardly knows, taking charge of his care and soon remarrying, Lewis finds himself compelled to suppress his emotions.
