Sound! Euphonium

After a traumatic experience at a middle school regional brass band competition, euphonist Kumiko Oumae decides to leave music behind as she enters high school, seeking a new beginning. However, she soon finds herself surrounded by peers who share an interest in the high school brass band. With encouragement from her bandmates, Kumiko rediscovers her passion for music. Her companions include newcomers like Hazuki Katou, a beginner tubist, and Sapphire Kawashima, an experienced contrabassist, as well as the band’s vice president and fellow euphonist, Asuka Tanaka. She also reconnects with old friends, such as her childhood companion Shuuichi Tsukamoto, who has transitioned from horn to trombone, and Reina Kousaka, a trumpeter and former middle school bandmate.

Despite their ambitions to reach the national band competition, the group is in disarray. Even participating in the local festival seems daunting unless their new band advisor, Noboru Taki, can bring order to the chaos.

Produced by Kyoto Animation, known for animating Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, “Hibike! Euphonium” offers a refreshing and musical perspective on the classic high school narrative, exploring themes of overcoming past challenges, discovering love, and pursuing dreams and goals.
