Degrassi Junior High
Degrassi Junior High is a Canadian teen drama series that aired on CBC Television from 1987 to 1989, forming part of the broader Degrassi franchise. The show centered on a group of students at the fictional Degrassi Junior High School, delving into challenging issues such as drug use, child abuse, teenage pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce. It was praised for its authentic and sensitive depiction of the trials faced by teenagers. The cast was primarily made up of amateur actors, enhancing the show’s realistic feel.
Many actors from the earlier series, The Kids of Degrassi Street, such as Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, and Sarah Charlesworth, returned, albeit with different character names and family backgrounds, making Degrassi Junior High not a direct continuation of the previous show.
Stephen Stohn served as the legal advisor for all episodes and later became the executive producer for Degrassi: The Next Generation. The series was shot at the former Vincent Massey Public School in Etobicoke, Ontario.
