My Big Phat Hip Hop Family
Audrey is a conventional music student at a large university in the Midwest, aiming for a career in classical music. Her seemingly “normal” demeanor, however, makes her stand out awkwardly in her family, which consists of flamboyant performers. Her parents were funk and R&B icons in the 1970s, her brother is a leading figure in the hip hop and fashion world, and her young sister is a savvy MC reminiscent of Lil’ Kim. Audrey feels a bit embarrassed by her family’s background and looks down on the egos and excesses of pop culture, so she keeps her family a secret from her new boyfriend. This becomes increasingly challenging when her family decides to pay a visit, leaving a lasting impact on the campus.
