Marta, a young homemaker, is married to Dario, a thriving book publisher. Despite her enduring love for him, Marta has been unable to find sexual fulfillment for several months because of their monotonous and routine relationship. During a visit to Mantua for the Festivaletteratura, a literary festival, Marta heeds the advice of her cunning friend Sylvia and embarks on an affair with Leon, a charming and enigmatic artist.
