Deprogrammed

In the early 1970s, Ted ‘Black Lightning’ Patrick pioneered the method of ‘deprogramming’, or ‘reverse brainwashing’. This approach rapidly evolved into a widespread clandestine movement. It involved worried parents, former cult members who became deprogrammers, and a few supportive law enforcement officers, all working together to physically and mentally extricate people from cults.
